Indian Comfort Food in Kastrup: What to Order on a Cold Evening

Bowls of daal makhani and butter chicken with garlic naan on a wooden table, Indian comfort food from Inder'n in Kastrup

When the evenings get dark and cold, most people in Kastrup want the same thing: something hot, rich and filling that they do not have to cook. That is what Indian comfort food in Kastrup is for. At Inder'n we cook North Indian dishes built on slow-cooked sauces, butter, cream, lentils and warm bread, and they travel home well in a takeaway bag.

This guide walks through what we would order on a cold evening, what it costs, and how to put together a dinner for two. Inder'n is open Tuesday to Sunday, 16:00–20:30 (closed Mondays), at Sirgræsvej 4, 2770 Kastrup, five minutes from Copenhagen Airport (CPH).

What makes Indian food comfort food

Comfort food is usually slow, soft and rich. North Indian cooking has plenty of it. Lentils and beans simmer for a long time until they turn creamy. Tomato sauces are finished with butter or cream. Bread comes out of the tandoor hot and soft enough to scoop everything up. None of it needs a knife, and most of it tastes even better as the sauce settles on the plate.

It is also food that holds heat. A thick sauce stays warm much longer than a fried dish, which is why curry is a good choice when you live a few minutes from the kitchen in Kastrup, Tårnby or on Amager and want dinner that is still hot when you sit down.

The dishes we would order when it is cold

Everything below is on our menu, with the prices we charge for pickup (rice is 25 kr extra).

Daal Makhani, 109 kr

Black lentils and beans, cooked slowly until the sauce is thick and smooth. It is vegetarian, and it is the dish to pick if you want something that feels like a warm blanket. In our kitchen the slow cooking is the whole point: the longer the pot is on, the creamier it gets. If you want to know what daal actually is, read our guide Hvad er daal? (in Danish).

Butter Chicken, 119 kr

Chicken in a creamy tomato sauce with butter. It is mild, rich and the easiest dish on the menu to agree on if you are ordering for more than one person. Our Butter Chicken guide goes into more detail on the dish.

Lamb Rogan Josh, 139 kr

Tender lamb in a deep, spiced sauce. Rogan josh comes from Kashmir and North India, and it suits the weather: warming spices, slow-cooked meat and a sauce that is made to be mopped up with bread. Not sure whether to choose it or Butter Lamb? We compared them in Butter Lamb or Lamb Rogan Josh?

Shahi Paneer, 129 kr

Paneer in a creamy cashew and tomato sauce. It is vegetarian and rich without being heavy on spice, so it works well for people who want comfort more than heat.

Chana Masala, 109 kr

Chickpeas in a spiced curry with onions and tomatoes. It is vegan, according to our menu, and it is the one to order if you want something hearty without dairy.

Bread, starters and drinks

Order Garlic Naan or Plain Naan at 17 kr each. We bake it in the tandoor, and it is at its best in the first few minutes, so eat it first and let the curry wait. Add a portion of Basmati Rice at 25 kr if you prefer more sauce on the plate than bread.

For a starter, two Samosas with potato and peas cost 49 kr, and three Pakoras cost 49 kr. Both are vegan on our menu. If you cannot decide between them, our post Samosa vs Pakora helps. A Mango Lassi is 35 kr, and a Cobra or Kingfisher beer is 39 kr if you want something to go with a rich curry.

A cold-evening dinner for two

Here is a combination that works for two people and what it costs, based on the prices on our menu:

That is one creamy chicken dish and one lentil dish, so you can share both. If you want to see how other orders add up, our guide Hvor meget indisk mad skal man bestille? covers 2, 4 and 6 people.

Getting it home hot

Pick up at the kitchen on Sirgræsvej, or order delivery through Wolt. If you pick up, go straight home and open the bag at the table. If you are not eating right away, our guide How to reheat Indian takeaway safely shows how to warm it up again without drying it out. If you prefer milder or hotter food, see our spice level guide before you order.
